On Thursday, May 6, the solo exhibition of Miami-based Cuban artist Vicente Dopico Lerner opened. Titled Chaos and the image Dopico Lerner presents not only his recent work but also some works from earlier periods. Regarding his work, Dopico Lerner tells us: “Just as chaos and order coexist in the Universe, the product of a creative energy, elements unite and coexist in my work that, on the one hand, provoke a vision of rupture, while on the other, signal an attempt at reordering.”
Over the course of more than 35 years of his artistic career, Vicente Dopico Lerner has participated in countless exhibitions throughout the United States, the Caribbean (including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico), South America, Mexico, Central America, and Europe. His drawings and watercolors have illustrated literary editions by various writers. Numerous analyses, interviews, and essays on his work have also been published.
His work is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (Dominican Republic), Casa de Las Américas (Havana, Cuba), the Institute for International Studies (United Nations, New York), the Brugal Foundation (Dominican Republic), and the Office of the Historian of Havana, among others.
The exhibition Chaos and the image will be presented in room #8 of the Museum of the Americas from Thursday, May 6 to Sunday, June 6, 2010.
