Windows to history

Intervention of 17 artists

In Windows for History, the protagonists are seventeen old windows of the San Juan Art Students LeagueThese are the windows that saw the League grow with its students, teachers, artists, and tireless collaborators who believed in it. These windows were rescued during the current restoration of the headquarters and convey the memories of the students' and faculty's experiences, such as classes and exhibitions, the breeze that runs through its courtyard, and the view of Old San Juan from the classroom windows. The various layers of paint on the wood are a testament to the long and enriching history of this institution, sustained by the will of its collaborators and community solidarity.

Seventeen artists, all associated with the Art League as students, faculty, or both, for the most part, intervened in these windows. Each of them discovered the flawless beauty of the assigned door, especially the richness of its texture, which reflects the passage of time, which was a source of inspiration for their creation. The result was a very pleasant surprise. Each of the works captured an intimate dialogue between the artist and the window, recalling the history of their alma mater, where each artist had embedded a piece of their heart. In this exhibition, the "window" is a metaphor for an opening to time past, for each artist's reflection on the years spent around the San Juan Art Students League.
